The Marlpool United Reformed Church Theatre Company is an amateur theatre group, based in Marlpool, which is on the outskirts of Heanor, in Derbyshire, England.
The Marlpool United Reformed Church Theatre Company was formed in 1984, with the staging of “Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”, which was a great success. Since that time, the Company has gone from strength to strength, staging on average two musicals per year, for the last 20 years.
Shows have included Oliver, The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, My Fair Lady, Guys & Dolls, Jesus Christ Superstar and Oklahoma, to name but a few.
The Company has approximately 50 members, some of which have been in all of the 34 productions to date. The age of our members ranges from 8, right up to some of our most senior members who are in their 70’s.
The Company has a resident Producer, Duncan Smith, who has been with the Company since its inception, and he is supported by his daughters Alison Bailey as Musical Director, and Kathy Dodsworth as one of our Choreographers.
Company Chairman, Jim Sumner, is one of the more senior members, at 74 years old, but still manages to take a leading role in most productions, and also leads the tenor section in all chorus numbers!
